Diunna Greenleaf, the leader of Blue Mercy, is a native of Houston, TX with a background steeped in gospel music. Influenced by the likes of Koko Taylor, Aretha Franklin, Rosetta Thorpe, Sam Cooke, Charles Brown and her own parents, Ben & Mary Ella Greenleaf (gospel), she has developed "Diunna's style of Blues" in the same tradition as so many other great Texas blues men and women. Named as Living Blues Magazine's 2015 "Female Artist of the Year," she combines intricate patches of jazz, gospel and heartfelt soul to create a kind of blues that takes one on an emotional roller coaster ride.
In addition to her renown as a local and regional blues leader, serving as the President of the Houston Blues Society for three years as the first woman to ever occupy the position, Diunna and her band Blue Mercy have performed throughout the United States and internationally for many years. Between 2008 - 2017, she was nominated for more than 7 blues awards at the annual Blues Music Awards, holding 3 of those wins. Diunna has performed with the likes of Keb Mo, Willie "Pinetop" Perkins, Odetta, Kenny Neal, Percy Sledge, Bob Margolin, the late Teddy "Cry Cry" Reynolds, and many more.
