On “Gemini Rising,” and “Down Time,” New Orleans saxophonist an visual artist Tony Dagradi presented two engaging recordings in which he layered different groupings of saxophones with various guest drummers to create dense textures and surprisingly robust arrangements. Both albums feature mostly original compositions and cover a variety of grooves and moods along with a few jazz standards, including Thelonious Monk’s rhapsodic “Monk’s Mood” and the gorgeous ballad, “My One And Only Love.”
For this evening’s performance at Snug Harbor, Dagradi has brought together a group of remarkable players who will create a unique aural universe composed entirely of saxophones. The personnel includes Derek Douget on tenor sax, Scott Johnson on alto sax, Jason Mingledorff on baritone sax and Dagradi leading the charge on soprano and tenor saxophones. Also joining these talented reedman will be Stanton Moore of Galactic. Join us for an evening of unprecedented pyrotechnic saxophone soul!
