Nolatet features some of New Orleans' key jazz musicians: Contemporary drummer extraordinaire Johnny Vidacovich's long resumé includes playing with New Orleans legends Professor Longhair and James Booker in the 1970s and 80s. While also a staple in city's funk scene, he is perhaps best known as one of the founding members of the modern jazz quartet Astral Project, the band that, after 35 years, is still going strong. Pianist Brian Haas is one of the founding members of the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, who's modern music has blended jazz, rock, and funk for the past 20 years. Mike Dillon is an experimental vibraphonist and percussionist known for his work in Garage-A-Trois, Les Claypool's Fancy Band and Critters Buggin. Composer, bassist, bandleader and multi-instrumentalist James Singleton presents true modern experimental jazz that also draws from rock and orchestral roots.
