Infinitude – the concept of boundless possibility – is at the center of the music of Ingrid and Christine Jensen. Over the past 20 years, as trumpeter and saxophonist respectively, the West Canadian sisters have each shaped prolific careers in contemporary jazz, collaborating with influential names such as Clark Terry, Maria Schneider and Terry Lynn Carrington, working with large and small ensembles, and responding to various commissions to compose for jazz orchestras around the globe.
For their 2016 Whirlwind Recordings debut, "Infinitude," the Jensens realized a long-held ambition – to write for and perform in the more intimate setting of a quintet, combining their intuitive, sibling trust with the creativity of renowned like-minded musicians. This collaborative spirit has been at the center of their careers ever since.
Tonight, during the annual Jazz Education Network conference week, the Jensen Sisters collaborate with New Orleans trumpeter, educator and pied piper of the rising Trumpet Mafia, Ashlin Parker, to present an all-star ensemble for one night only, featuring:
Ingrid Jensen - trumpet Ashlin Parker - trumpet Christine Jensen - saxophone Joey Calderazzo - piano Amina Scott - bass Jason Marsalis - drums
