WAYNE MAUREAU TRIO: “At The Water’s Edge” Record Release

Thu February 2 @ 10:00 pm

Born and raised in New Orleans, drummer Wayne Maureau has been a member of the local music scene for over 30 years. Known for his versatility, he is called upon to back artists, both local and international, in all genres of music. During his career he has performed at clubs and festivals around the world and been featured on many recordings.

Currently he performs and tours with Mia Borders, The Ricci/Krown Trio, The Soul Project, The Soulful Three, The John Mahoney Big Band, and perhaps most notably, recently ended a 13-year run with the late New Orleans blues-funk legend Walter ‘Wolfman’  Washington. As a bandleader Wayne has released four recordings of his original compositions and plays locally with his group, Wayne Maureau’s Nu VieuxDoo. With 25 years teaching experience, he also serves as adjunct faculty percussion instructor at Loyola University in New Orleans. He is a member of the Faculty Jazz Ensemble, instructs the Loyola Afro-Cuban Ensemble and published The Multi-Stylist Drummer, a method book detailing his approach to the drums. Wayne currently holds endorsements with Bosphorus Cymbals, Aquarian Drumheads and Fortune Drums.
Tonight, Maureau presents the release of his new album, At The Water’s Edge, featuring players from the record
Wayne Maureau – drums
Ed Wise – acoustic upright bass
Brian Quezergue – electric bass
Joe Ashlar – piano
Jordan Baker -piano
Versatile drummer and composer Wayne Maureau’s latest release, “At the Water’s Edge” features 10 original compositions inspired by water or places bordering water. He performs here in two trios; 6 tracks in an acoustic format with pianist Joe Ashlar and bassist Ed Wise, and 4 more with pianist Jordan Baker and Brian Quezergue on electric bass, are interspersed for a funkier edge. New Orleans, often referred to as the northern-most city of the Caribbean, is Wayne’s hometown. His compositions draw from the cultural diversity and rich musical history of the city, while bringing his own vision to life. From an adventurous calypso to an introspective swing to a funky samba “At the Water’s Edge” is a musical metaphor for the ebb and flow of life in the crescent city.
As of mid-January, At The Water’s Edge is also currently at #7 on the Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Louisiana Albums of 2023!
