Born and raised in the musically fertile neighborhood of New Orleans’ Seventh Ward, Thais Clark is a high-energy performer with a deep-rooted passion for the bawdy numbers popularized by blues legends Ma Rainy and Bessie Smith.
Regarded as a New Orleans vocal legend, this dynamic singer-dancer can present each song like no one else, having more than 30 years of experience performing before audiences at home and around the world. Thais performed in the New Orleans-born, hit Off-Broadway musical set in 1920s Black vaudeville, “One Mo’ Time,” alongside late great vocal legend Topsy Chapman, from the late 1970s through the 1980s. Ms. Clark played the character of Ma Rainey on the New York, London, and European stages, including a Royal Command Performance for Queen Elizabeth II and a separate performance for Prince Phillip.
Since then, she has traveled much of the world with Wynton Marsalis and Dr. Michael White. She has also performed with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. Today, you can find her occasionally in select venues performing with her own band, the Jazzsters. To have the chance to experience her live in an intimate listening room is a rare treat.
Tonight, Thais Clark presents Her Jazzsters, featuring:
