LAWRENCE SIEBERTH presents VOODOO TEK (Record Release)
Thu October 6 @ 10:00 pm
“I’ve always considered music to be a bridge to the spirit world…I perceive music with an architectural bent — add and subtract — everything is connected.” ~ Lawrence Sieberth
One of our premiere resident pianists and composers, Lawrence Sieberth debuts his new project, Voodoo Tek, at Snug tonight. Expect the unexpected.
Voodoo Tek features:
Larry Sieberth – piano
Brad Walker – saxophones
Danny Abel – guitar
Brian Quezergue – bass
Doug Belote – drums
As a self-described “musical chameleon,” Larry Sieberth is one of the most notably versatile pianists the Crescent City has to offer. But he is also a sought-after music director, arranger, and producer, creating a number of musical extravaganzas for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the Marigny Opera House, and more. He also serves as musical director for New Orleans’ “First Lady of Jazz,” Ms. Germaine Bazzle, and several other music legends who entrust him with their live legacies.
Sieberth is at home in virtually any musical setting. While based in jazz, Lawrence’s musical vision is not limited by genre barriers—he prefers to integrate the many facets of music and performance into an engaging, inclusive experience. His own neo-bop improvisations and experimental inclinations combine with his classical and world music in?uences, providing an extensive musical vocabulary for both performances and compositions for television, ?lm, and stage.
He has released more than 6 albums as a soloist or bandleader, and countless compositions for film, television, and theatre. His collaborations with notable local performers include: Johnny Adams, Charles Neville, Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Tony Dagradi, John Vidacovich, Luther Kent, Brian ‘Breeze’ Cayolle, Victor Goines, and Jason Marsalis. He presently performs and tours with Gerald French & the Original Tuxedo Jazzband and vocalist Germaine Bazzle.
Lawrence has received numerous grants including the Louisiana Artist Fellowship Award and the 2009 Asante Award and is a recent recipient of the Community Partnership Grant sponsored by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation.
