GERMAINE BAZZLE and CYRILLE AIMÉE with the Larry Sieberth Trio

Sun May 7 @ 9:00 pm

SNUG HARBOR’s OFFICIAL JAZZ FEST 2023 LINEUP:

Two Vocal Powerhouses: Germaine Bazzle and Cyrille Aimée Together: One Night Only with an All-Star New Orleans band!  Close-out Jazz Fest 2023 with us at this incredibly special show…
ABOUT GERMAINE BAZZLE
Known in New Orleans as the “First Lady of Jazz” and “The Grand Dame of New Orleans Jazz,” Germaine Bazzle has been under-recognized nationally and internationally throughout her career. Having taught music class in schools across the region for 50 years, she is one of the true unsung legends of the Birthplace of Jazz as both a performing artist and a youth choir instructor.
Many have said that if it weren’t for her dedication to teaching music to students, she would be enjoying global acclaim as an in-demand touring artist. During the 1990s, Germaine received four Gambit Weekly “Big Easy Music Awards” and two OffBeat Magazine “Best of the Beat Awards” for Best Vocalist, and then the 2015 OffBeat Best of the Beat Lifetime Achievement Award for Music Education.
You might have to do some digging to glean much of her discography, as she appears mostly as a featured vocalist on compilations and with various collaboration bands such as with Alvin “Red” Tyler and Johnny Adams, as well as “New New Orleans Music: Vocal Jazz,” but she does have a few recordings of her own, including 1996’s “Standing Ovation” and notably her most recent live album “Swingin’ at Snug” – recorded live at our place in 2017.
Bazzle’s unparalleled range as a vocalist is perhaps one of New Orleans’ best kept secrets. Her command of tone and melody coupled with her brilliance in the manipulation of her own vocal timbre during a solo are nothing short of spectacular, while her true gift is her ability to render a lyric. At 90 years young this year in 2022, to experience her live is an unforgettable moment, and a national treasure.
ABOUT CYRILLE AIMÉE
Improvisation is not just a technique for Grammy nominated artist Cyrille Aimée, it’s a way of life. The acclaimed vocalist ventured from singing on street corners in Europe to dazzling audiences at the world’s most prestigious jazz festivals; from sneaking out to sing in gypsy encampments in her native France to acting on Broadway; from braving the notoriously tough audiences at New York’s Apollo Theatre to being called a “rising star in the galaxy of jazz singers” by the New York Times.
Among countless accolades, Aimée won the 2007 Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition and the 2012 Sarah Vaughn International Jazz Vocal Competition. As an actress, Aimée co-starred with Bernadette Peters in a Stephen Sondheim tribute at New York’s City Center which inspired her to dig deeper into Sondheim’s repertoire, resulting in her fourth and most recent album, “Move On: A Sondheim Adventure.” She’s shared her story via master classes, a TEDx talk, and a few addresses at the Conference on World Affairs.
Tonight, they perform with one of Bazzle’s longtime musical director’s trio, featuring
