EXTENDED trio x BRAD WALKER: “Side x Side” Record Release
Sun March 12 @ 8:00 pm
EXTENDED is Oscar Rossignoli on piano, Matt Booth on bass, and Brad Webb on drums.
All three musicians compose for the group, with the particular musical personalities of the group foremost in mind, an approach that has thrilled locals and reached audiences worldwide. Their debut LP from the spring of 2017, released on Breakfast 4 Dinner Records, received praise for its distinctive compositions and dynamic group interplay.
Their sophomore offering, Harbinger (Origin Records), improves upon the solid foundation set with 2017’s eponymous debut, exhibiting a new attitude and focused maturity after three years of development. Offbeat Magazine named the album one of the Top 50 Best of Louisiana Music in 2019, and as stated by music journalist Geraldine Wyckoff, “’Harbinger’ manifests superb musicianship creatively employed to produce a highly individualized yet collective artistic endeavor that is a privilege to experience.”
Since their first release, EXTENDED has toured within the country and continues to play shows that leave audiences invigorated and fulfilled. As the whole world knows, the city of New Orleans knows no shortage of the highest caliber of players in the world, but in the last few years, locals have been thrilled to see the development of a new collective – EXTENDED – that has quickly come to find a place among our brightest stars.
Brad Walker is one of the most active and sought-after saxophonists in the city of New Orleans today. Perhaps best known for his “soaring” (Rolling Stone), “energetic” (NPR), and “tasteful” (Relix) solos on Saturday Night Live, the 2017 Grammy Awards, and The Tonight Show with Nashville mega-star Sturgill Simpson, Walker is a compelling artist in his own right, with six full-length releases under his own name and over a decade of music-making in the Crescent City under his belt.
His 2014 debut, “Quintet,” received a 4-Star review in DownBeat Magazine, and his playing has received praise in the Times-Picayune, Variety, OffBeat Magazine, Gambit Weekly, and many other publications. In 2020, Walker was nominated for two ‘Best of the Beat’ Awards by OffBeat Magazine, in the ‘Contemporary Jazz’ category as ‘Best Artist’ and for ‘Best Record’ (for “Live at Snug Harbor”), alongside such international stars as Terence Blanchard, Jon Batiste, Herlin Riley, Christian aTunde Adjuah Scott, and Nicholas Payton.
Since 2009, Walker has performed or recorded with such luminaries as Bernard Purdie, Peter Erskine, John Riley, George Porter, Jr., Anders Osborne, Ivan Neville & Dumpstaphunk, Marcia Ball, Rickie Lee Jones, Valerie June, Alex Ebert, Better Than Ezra, U2 (w/Hal Willner), Zigaboo Modeliste, and countless others. He has led the horn sections for Blues Award-winner Ana Popovic and OffBeat Award winners Eric Lindell, Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, Honey Island Swamp Band, and Colin Lake. Since 2016, he has worked with New Orleans native PJ Morton, recording on multiple Grammy Award-winning and -nominated records, and performing on The Today Show, BET Gospel Super Bowl, and other national programs.
Tonight: the trio becomes a quartet, as the 4-dimensional version of this project with saxophonist Brad Walker becomes: WALKER + EXTENDED for their debut record release, presenting “Side x Side.”
