SNUG HARBOR’s OFFICIAL JAZZ FEST 2023 LINEUP:
Saxophonist, bandleader, composer and Big Chief of the Congo Square Nation, Donald Harrison Jr. has been named “one of the most important musicians of the new millennium” by CBS Sunday Morning. He is the originator of the Nouveau Swing style, which merges jazz with modern R&B, New Orleans second-line music, hip-hop, Afro-New Orleans cultural group traditions, and reggae rhythms.
At age 19, Harrison began working with Roy Haynes, by 20 with Jack McDuff, and by 21 joined Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. A few years later, he co-led a band with Terence Blanchard that had an enormous impact on the development of the “neo-conservative” movement in jazz. Harrison Jr. has also worked with other notables including Lena Horne, Spike Lee, Eddie Palmieri and hip-hop groups such as Guru’s Jazzmatazz, The Notorious BIG, and Digable Planets. The New York Times raves, “Mr. Harrison turned out to be one of the most musicologically literate jazz players to come out in ages!”
Most recently, Harrison Jr. was named one of the 2022 NEA Jazz Masters, the highest US jazz award, joining fellow honorees Stanley Clarke, Billy Hart, and Cassandra Wilson.

In order to preserve the integrity, quiet and focus of our world class intimate concerts, only cocktails and soft drinks are available for table service inside the Music Room. However, we encourage you to arrive 90 Minutes prior to your showtime in order to enjoy full, relaxing dinner service in the Dining Room right next door, before getting seated in the Music Room for the show. 9pm ticket holders can also enjoy dinner, dessert or appetizers after the show, with Dining Room seating only guaranteed by submitting your table request before 9pm.
